64 Times More Bike Tickets Issued to Cyclists in Austin than in Lincoln Park

General

Excellent article from John Greenfield on the racial disparities in the Chicago Police Department’s ticketing of cyclists. From the perspective of bike crash personal injury cases, an injured cyclist who receives a ticket related to a crash doesn’t necessarily mean a bad case that can’t be won (the ticket can often be excluded from evidence), but it certainly will make it a tougher and longer battle for that cyclist to receive compensation, especially if they try to do it without a lawyer. It’s a shame that cyclist ticketing in the city seems to have a racial element, but hardly surprising in this town. Just another barrier that injured cyclists must deal with in Chicago.
